Firefighting Museum opens May 4: The Haverhill Firefighting Museum will hold its opening day celebration on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Bring your camera and snap a picture with the museum’s mascot, Dottie the Dalmatian on a real fire truck. Complete a scavenger hunt and win a prize. Take a tour, relax and do a craft project. Learn something new about fire prevention. Refreshments will be served. Special opening day family admission is $5. The museum is located in the historic Armory building at 75 Kenoza Ave. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for children. Story hour on May 4 features Dottie the Dalmatian from noon to 1 p.m. On May 18, the museum will have an 11 a.m. showing of Jay Cleary’s documentary, “The Great Conflagration,” remembering Haverhill’s Great Fire of 1882. Popcorn will be served. On May 25, Memorial Day weekend, the museum will present a World War II memorial to COA, the 182nd Infantry Division that left from the Armory building, as well as a memorial to Haverhill Firefighters from the 1880’s to today. American Legion baseball tryouts: American Legion Post 4 will hold tryouts on May 4 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Stadium for the Junior and Senior American Legion baseball teams. Anyone born after 1994 who lives or attends school in Haverhill is eligible to try out. The Junior Legion team is for those born after 1996 while the Senior Legion team is for anyone born after 1994. Trivia Night to support education: The Haverhill Foundation for Excellence in Education will host its semi-annual Trivia Night on May 4 in the Galleria at Maria’s Family Restaurant, 81 Essex St. Check-in begins at 6:30 p.m. The competition starts at 7 p.m. Entry fee is $25 per person. Teams of two to eight members are required to register and pay the entry fee in advance at www.HaverhillEducationFoundation.org or by calling 978-697-5620. First prize is $300, second prize is $100 and third prize is $50. A special Haverhill round offers a prize of $50. The foundation is an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization which supports programs and projects in Haverhill public schools. Trivia Night is sponsored by Pentucket Bank, Haverhill Bank and the Haverhill Firefighters Union.
