Talk on elder law planned: The Council on Aging will host a free discussion on elder law May 16 at 10 a.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St. Attorney Robert Ford will discuss elder care issues such as estate planning, health care proxies and living wills. :Lions Club to hold comedy night: The Haverhill Lions Club will holding its annual comedy night on May 18 at the Roma Restaurant in Bradford. Doors open at 6 p.m. for those who would like to have dinner before the show and get good seats. The show features comedian Bucky Lewis and will start at 8 p.m. Please note, the show includes adult humor. There will be raffles to help raise money for the Haverhill Lions charities. Tickets are $20 per person. The Haverhill Lions Club serves people in the community by purchasing eyeglasses and providing eye exams for those who cannot afford them, serving the homeless, donating to school groups, and providing donations to the Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund. The club meets on the second and fourth Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m. at Maria’s Restaurant on Essex Street. For more information, contact Sharon Pecci at pechgram@gmail.com.

Exchange Club celebration: The Exchange Club of Haverhill will host its second annual Recognition Night on May 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Maria’s Family Restaurant, 81 Essex St. The event will include the Ace and Youth Scholarship Award, which is presented to students for excellence in educational achievements and overcoming adversity; the Book of Golden Deeds, which honors a local community member who has gone above and beyond in volunteering and supporting his or her community without any recognition; and So Proudly We Hail, which recognizes one resident and one organization in Haverhill for displaying the American flag. The event will conclude with a recognition of the club’s major sponsors and supporters from the past year. Tickets are $20 per person and will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, presentations and award ceremonies.
