The week's news in review

Police arrest 11 on drug charges, including major heroin dealer

Police in Haverhill arrested a Lawrence heroin dealer at a home on Chadwick Street about 300 feet from the Greenleaf Elementary School in Bradford Thursday. Police said that at the time of the arrest, parents were picking up their children.

A search of the house turned up 143.8 grams of heroin with an estimated street value of $8,000. Police also seized $3,878 in cash.

In all, police arrested 11 people this week as a result of four days of surveillance in the Bradford area by Haverhill Narcotics Detectives, who had received complaints from residents.

Police Deputy Chief Donald Thompson said the arrests included three men who pulled into a business parking lot on South Main Street to use heroin. In a separate incident, two men were arrested in a different business parking lot using heroin.

Thompson said a young woman from New Hampshire was arrested after she purchased heroin in Bradford and two men were arrested for selling marijuana in Central Square. Additionally, one man was arrested after pulling into a parking lot to use a Class B substance and another was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

“Today it appears that people purchasing heroin will often look for a close place to use the drug,” Thompson said. “Often it is a business parking lot or just a parking spot on a side street. If you are seeing unusual activity in your neighborhood or work place, please let us know.”
