“When I walk down some of these alleys, I’m glad I have my sneakers on,” he quipped.

A fitting name

Mayor James Fiorentini has appointed Attorney Laura Angus as assistant city clerk after Heather Budrewicz left the job.

Angus’ new job will have her working in an office once directed by someone with the same last name. Chester Angus was Haverhill’s city clerk decades ago.

Laura Angus will take over the assistant clerk’s job May 5. The mayor said there were many qualified applicants with diverse backgrounds and that Angus emerged as the number-one choice.

Angus is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and the New England School of Law. She was a practicing attorney for many years, overseeing a legal office of 12 attorneys before she entered the childcare field. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Bradford Swim and Recreation Club. She lives in Haverhill with her husband and three children.

Latest twist on highway

If you’re driving on I-495, keep an eye on the shoulder of the road.

The state’s latest job on the highway is replacing and installing catch basins on a long stretch through Haverhill.

Workers doing the job are leaving the grates raised and needing pavement to be spread around them. Drivers not noticing the conditions of the basins could drive into them, possibly causing damage to their cars.
