What do you do when you have perfectly good signs posted around town announcing this year’s KidsFEST as taking place May 18, but then you postpone the event due to rain?
The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, which is presenting this year’s KidsFEST, was pretty clever. They didn’t replace the perfectly good and nicely designed green, yellow and white signs with new ones. They just pasted over the area of the month and date to read June 8.
The postponement was due to rain on the original date, and then a desire to avoid a conflict with Memorial Day weekend events.
Speaking of the chamber...
The organization has some fast work to do, as both its president and vice president are flying the coop.
Chamber chief Sven Amirian announced a while back that he’s leaving to join a private company. Then last week, Jen Cantwell, his right hand at the chamber, announced she is leaving for a position with the Sheriff’s Department, where she will work in the inmate release program.
Both are leaving at the start of July.
The campaign is on
“It’s Time for a New Hunking School.”
That’s the message residents recently received in their mail.
The Lamplighter received one of these colorful glossy cardboard announcements sent out by the Haverhill for Hunking organization, a parent led group that is pushing for a new Hunking School.
The announcement featured images of structural problems discovered at the Hunking, along with information intended to urge voters to pass a debt exclusion to help pay for a new school when the city holds a special election June 10. The announcement carried messages to voters as to why a new Hunking is needed, such as the need to run air-purifiers around the clock to protect students and staff from mold and unhealthy air, and how the existing Hunking has been declared structurally unsound and is targeted to close in June 2017.
