It might be a little brisk outside, but this year’s new Haverhill Christmas shopping event is designed to bring you into warm shops and show you what holiday gifts are available locally.
The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Trinity EMS ambulance service, is hosting a Twelve Days of Shopping promotion that focuses on businesses in Haverhill and surrounding towns.
The chamber developed the program to show shoppers what is available locally as they look for Christmas gifts. It started Monday.
“The chamber has worked to provide an event promoting our membership, helping some of those businesses gain exposure and sales throughout the holiday season,’’ the organization said in a press release. “We want people to shop locally.’’
The event runs through Dec. 20. Each business hosts an open house on a single date, between 5 and 7 p.m. The business serves refreshments and offers incentives to shop at the store.
Paper Potpourri at 95 Broadway, which hosted an open house Tuesday, issued a release before the event that said, “Stop in even if it is to say hello and enjoy refreshments, conversation, door prizes, goodie bags and holiday fun. 20 percent to half-off many items.’’
Participating business will offer a variety of items, including, “Personalized stationery, gourmet foods, locally-made flavorful wines, holiday décor items, decorated wreaths, ornate ornaments, hand-made jewelry, trendy accessories, unique clothing, consignment options, gift items, children’s toys, artwork, art supplies, candles, photo frames, floral arrangements, collectable figurines,” according to the chamber’s press release.
The shopping began Monday at Nunans Florist and Greenhouses at 269 Central St., Route 97 in Georgetown. The Dec. 5 event was at Ashley’s Hallmark Shop, at 58 Plaistow Road in Plaistow.
