The Haverhill Gazette
---- — It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is only three weeks away.
While many of us have been hitting the stores already, others are bracing for last-minute shopping.
But then there are the people for whom time is not the issue. It comes down to money — a lack of it.
For some individuals and families, holiday shopping is impossible.
They simply do not have money to buy gifts to put under the tree, even something simple to bring a smile to their children’s faces.
You can help them by donating to The Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund, simply by hitting a few keys on your computer.
The Gazette has a new online site where people can donate to the fund. Just use the link hgazette.com/santafund and the instructions will appear. You can also donate the old-fashioned way, by mailing a check to the Gazette Santa Fund, care of The Eagle-Tribune, 100 Turnpike St., North Andover, MA 01845; or by dropping off a donation at The Eagle-Tribune offices at that address.
If you mail or drop off a donation, you can fill out a coupon appearing inside the Gazette to go with the donation. You can also write your name and address on a separate piece of paper.
Donors can list the name of someone in whose memory the money is given.
All money donated to the fund is distributed by organizations such as the Salvation Army and Community Action to Haverhill people who need help during the holidays.
The 43rd annual Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund Hole-in-One Contest in October at Garrison Golf Center raised $5,232 for the fund, an increase of 25 percent over the total from last year’s contest.
Garrison owners Ted and Mary Murphy encourage residents to donate to the fund so local families who are struggling can have a good holiday season.
