Baby Boomers & Beyond: This week's news is all about travel

Beginning in February, Haverhill seniors and residents who are eligible through the Americans with Disabilities act, can ride an MVRTA bus to Lahey Clinic in Peabody as well as several Boston hospitals for Monday appointments. Cost is $8 one-way and $16 roundtrip. An MVRTA representative will be at the Citizens Center on Friday, Feb. 3, at 10 a.m. to provide additional information on this service.

A trip to the new Art of the Americas wing at the Museum of Fine arts in Boston is planned at the end of February, with a date and time to be announced. If you are interested in this trip, please contact the Council on Aging.

The COA's next trip to a Boston Symphony Orchestra rehearsal will be on Thursday, April 14, when Sir Colin Davis conducts works by Sibelius and Beethoven. Tickets are $35 per person.

Merrimack Valley Transportation offers a program called EZ Trans for people who are at least 60 years old and people who are disabled. EZ Tran is a "shared ride" service intended to accommodate those who cannot use the MVRTA fixed route bus system. Haverhill is one of several communities serviced by EZ Trans. Andover, Amesbury, Lawrence, Merrimac, Methuen, Newburyport and North Andover are the others. Contact the Merrimack Valley Regional Transit Authority at 978-469-6878 for details.

Did you know that people who are at least 65 years old are eligible for a 50 percent discount on the commuter train to Boston? If you would like to learn more about the MBTA Senior/TAP program, contact the Council on Aging.

The Council on Aging is planning a trip to the Hamilton-Wenham Public Library to watch chess master Lou Mercuri will play 30 other people simultaneously. The trips is Saturday, March 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. Contact Kathy or Rita if you are interested in participating. Registration is required.

A Red Sox trip to Baltimore and Washington, D.C., will take place April 26 to April 28. Game seats are in the upper reserved section. Cost is $279 per person, double occupancy and includes deluxe motor coach transportation..

COA is hosting a trip to the Foxwoods Theater to see the famous Russian comedian Yakov Smirnoff on Friday, April 8. The trip includes a free buffet or $15 food coupon and $10 in Keno. Note that there are stairs to climb to get to the seats at the Foxwoods Theater. Tickets are $59 per person and include motor coach transportation.

Trips for 2011 include Savannah, Charleston and Jekyll Island; Southern California and Las Vegas; tropical Costa Rica; and the Pacific Northwest and California.

Day trips include the Shaw Brothers at DiBurro's and a summer visit to Zorvino Vineyards in nearby Sandown, N.H.

A passports is required for the trip to Costa Rica.
