These kids were ready for the new school year — from the backpack over their shoulders to the pens, pencils and notebooks inside.
The city’s Community Violence Prevention Coalition sponsored its annual “Back to School Celebration” late last month at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St.
The coalition distributed 200 backpacks full of supplies to Haverhill students. Students and their parents received a short presentation from the School Department, providing information about the new school year.
The backpacks and supplies were purchased with donations from local businesses including Pentucket Bank, Haverhill Bank, Gleason Law Offices and Haverhill Community Television. The Community Violence Prevention Coalition raises money throughout the year to support events such as this.
The coalition hopes to distribute more backpacks next year. Anyone interested in joining the organization or donating to the event is asked to call Kim Boisselle at 978-373-1181, ext. 45.
