City woman's granddaughter returns from Iraq
Army National Guard Pfc. Kaylee E. Thoma is returning to the U.S. after a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
With her unit, she is returning to Fort Dix, N.J., for debriefing, evaluation and out-processing procedures before returning to their regularly assigned Army Reserve or National Guard units.
Thoma served in the Iraq Theater of Operations. A military police officer, Thoma is a member of the 747th Military Police Company, of Ware and has served in the military for more than two years. Thoma is the granddaughter of Susan A. Kierstead of North Avenue in Haverhill.
She is the daughter of Kathy E. Thoma of Main Street in Gloucester. She graduated from Gloucester High School in 2008.
City residents walk in cancer fundraiser
On Sunday, Sept. 12, 29 residents from Haverhill will walk up to 26.2 miles along the historic route of the Boston Marathon in the 22nd annual Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. They will be among the more than 8,000 walkers expected to participate with the collective goal of raising more than $6.5 million for lifesaving cancer research and care for adult and pediatric cancer patients at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute through its Jimmy Fund. Linehan named to NECC trustees
A Haverhill business owner has been appointed to the Northern Essex Community College Board of Trustees.
Gov. Deval Patrick appointed Jeffrey Linehan, president and owner of Diversified Business Systems, to the board.
A resident of Boxford, Linehan has served on the Northern Essex Community College Foundation Board of Directors since 2004. Linehan is a 1977 graduate of Northern Essex Community College. He earned an Associate of Science degree in Business. He also graduated with a Bachelor's in business administration from Salem State College in 1979.
He is a member of the Merrimack Valley Workforce Investment Board, the Exchange Club, and the Haverhill Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He previously worked as a financial analyst at AVCO/Textron and AGFA/Compugraphic in Wilmington.
Diversified Business Systems is a web and commercial printing company.
"We are pleased to have Jeff join our board," said NECC President David Hartleb. "As an alumnus of the college and a current Foundation member, he brings with him a unique perspective." The college's Board of Trustees includes nine members who are appointed by the governor to a maximum of two five-year terms as well as an alumni-elected member, who also serves a maximum of 10 years, and a student trustee who serves for two semesters.
