Chloe Simard, a fourth-grader at St. Joseph School in Haverhill, is one of two inaugural students in the school’s Equestrian Club.
Here she shows what the five-week program held at Cornerstone Farm involves. She’s learning about caring for horses, communicating with them and using the equipment needed to ride them, like saddles and bridles.
The club meets on Mondays from 3 to 6 p.m. at the farm. Children pay $40 a lesson for five weeks for a total of $200.
Each session includes a mounted lesson as well as hands-on activities that expose children to the many aspects of horse care and maintenance.
