Whittier Vo-Tech open house set for Nov. 8
A robot that climbs stairs, a garden pergola built by carpentry and masonry students and dozens of other exhibits will be featured at an open house on Sunday, Nov. 8, at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School in Haverhill.
"It's a great opportunity for eighth-graders and their families to come to Whittier and see all that we have to offer," said Superintendent William DeRosa. "We welcome everyone to join us for an interesting and informative afternoon."
Activities are planned from 1 to 4 p.m.
The school's 20 vocational-technical areas will be on display as well as academic classrooms, sports programs, special education services and more. Student guides will lead tours through the school, which encompasses three stories and 300,000 square feet.
Graphics students will run a portrait studio, students majoring in childcare have designed a day-care center and telecommunications students will explain their SMART Board Display.
Coaches and athletes from the school's 13 sports teams will meet with parents and prospective students in the gymnasium at 2:30 p.m., and the Whittier Players will host a choral performance at 3 p.m. in the cafeteria.
Guidance counselors will be available to explain the Whittier admissions process and DeRosa will host three meetings with parents beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Information on student services, including Title 1, ELL, and special education will be presented from 1 to 4 p.m. in the library.
Both of the school stores, which are run by marketing students, will be open and complimentary refreshments will be served at the school restaurant, Poet's Inn.
Whittier educates students from the cities and towns of Haverhill, Newburyport, Amesbury, Georgetown, Ipswich, Groveland, Merrimac, West Newbury, Newbury, Rowley and Salisbury.
