State Trooper Anthony A. Alestock of Haverhill has received the Massachusetts State Police Medal of Lifesaving. He was honored during a ceremony on Oct. 30 at the Statehouse for responding quickly and acting decisively to save the life of a victim in cardiac arrest.
According to a report of the incident, on Aug. 1, 2008, while assigned to the Massachusetts State Police Mounted Unit at the Salisbury State Reservation, Alestock responded to a report of a man in distress on the beach. He arrived to find a 47-year-old man lying unresponsive on the sand.
After determining the victim was not breathing and had no pulse, Alestock immediately began CPR. When a defibrillator was brought to the scene by Department of Conservation and Recreation lifeguards, the man was shocked three times. After the third shock from the defibrillator, the victim regained a pulse.
Alestock continued to monitor the victim and perform rescue breathing until Salisbury EMS personnel arrived and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he made a full recovery.
Alestock is a 13-year veteran of the Massachusetts State Police and is assigned to the Newbury Barracks. He has been assigned to the Mounted Unit during the summer for several years.
He also a former member of the State Police Special Tactics and Operations Team.
Alestock served in the Marine Corps from 1982 to 1988. He holds an associate's degree in criminal justice from Northern Essex Community College and a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Western New England College.
