Interfaith service to mark Sept. 11 anniversary

An interfaith prayer service in front of City Hall will commemorate the ninth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on America.

Mayor James Fiorentini has invited Rabbi Ira Korinow of Temple Emanu-El; the Rev. Frank Clarkson, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Haverhill; and the Rev. Robert Murray, pastor of St. James and St. John the Baptist Catholic Churches to participate in the 2 p.m. observance.

On Sept. 11, terrorist hijackers flew two planes into the Twin Towers in New York City, crashed one into the Pentagon, and intended to fly another into Washington, D.C., but were thwarted by passengers who crashed the plane in a field in Pennsylvania.

"The events of September 11, 2001 have forever changed the world we live in and have reignited a deep sense of patriotism for our country. Almost 3,000 people, victims of a senseless act of terrorism, were killed on that day. I am inviting any and all who are interested in joining me for a prayer service to remember our fallen friends and family and dedicated public servants who perished in this terrible event."
