The Lamp Post

The neighborhood surrounding the River Street area is on edge, and justifiably so. Last week’s double-fatal shooting during what police described as a home invasion has neighbors worried about further violence, but city officials are pledging to have more police patrols in the area and take other safety measures.

The Lamplighter noticed that State Senate candidate Paul Magliochetti has a unique campaign sign. Maglicochetti is driving around with a big red, white and blue campaign sign protruding from the bed of a white pickup truck.

Steve Clifford, the city’s recycling director who recently retired, is on a 10-day motorcycle ride that will take him to Maine and farther north to Canada. He will follow St. Lawrence River on scenic Route 132 to the ocean. He will then return through upstate New York and the Finger Lakes region. Clifford and three friends have done an annual trip around the country for 10 years.

The Lamplighter saw the Google Maps car riding around Haverhill. The car takes photos of certain streets and areas so that when using Google Maps, one is able to virtually see the city.
