Our country is clearly at a crossroads. On the eve of the September 14 primary, we are swimming in record debt, Washington continues to spend us into the oblivion, unemployment just keeps rising and problems like immigration continue to linger with no resolution in sight.
Our current representative has voted in favor of all these measures, which are hurting us locally and across the country. Here, in the 5th District I am very concerned about our own unemployment rate which is sadly over the national average. And yet I am hopeful that we can attack these issues and take America back and get her rolling again.
I'm running for a simple reason, my children and yours.
As an orphan, I fled the killing fields of the Khmer Rouge during the 1970s and immigrated to America, where I embraced and applied the values that made this country great: faith, liberty, dedication to family, hard work, thrift, courage, honesty and generosity.
Recently, I have noticed that many of the principles upon which America was founded are being eroded by a self-serving governing class of lobbyists, special interests, unaccountable bureaucrats and self-perpetuating career politicians. Now, as a husband, father and citizen concerned about the future of my adoptive country, I quit my job to run full-time for Congress.
The incumbent, Niki Tsongas, has, during her time in Congress, justly earned the reputation as one of Nancy Pelosi's most loyal subjects, unquestioningly voting the way the Speaker tells her to vote, whether to support the budget-busting stimulus bill, the health care monstrosity, the war in Afghanistan or other government-expanding and deficit increasing measures.
We have got to restore jobs to this district and this country. By lowering unemployment we can start to heal our bruised economy. Across the board tax cuts are a necessity, but that's only the beginning. I have a jobs plan that includes becoming the ADVOCATE for my district working and lobbying locally and nationally to get business back here in the 5th.
Our great towns and wonderful people would be an asset to anyone looking to open a new business or expand an existing one. Also, I will be organizing a small business advisory group to deal with the issues facing these people that are the backbone of our district and our nation.
The 5th District needs a candidate they can trust, who can beat Niki Tsongas in November. I believe I am the only one who can do this. Voters need someone who will work to restore jobs in the 5th, to be a responsible steward of their money, to cut personal and business taxes across the board, to secure our borders, to repeal Obamacare and to always remember, it is their vote I will be casting. I, Sam Meas, am that candidate.
