Free Community Skate to benefit Somebody Cares New England

See classic Sci-fi movies at the library: Every Tuesday morning in January the library is showing a classic sci-fi creature feature film. Stop by at 10 a.m. for viewings on the big screen. Check the library’s online events calendar for movie titles at www.haverhillpl.org.

School to host open house events: St. Joseph School of All Saints Parish will hold open house events for the nursery through grade eight on the following days and times: Sunday, Jan. 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Tuesday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The school offers small class sizes, accelerated math program, arts programs, extended day, state-of-the-art technology and a broad range of after school activities. E-book help available: Stop by the Citizens Center at 10 Welcome St. on Feb. 4 from 2 to 3 p.m. and learn about e-readers and e-books. Join Nancy House, reference librarian at the public library, for a beginner’s course on using e-books. E-books are becoming more and more popular and you can borrow them for free from your library. House will teach you the basics of using an e-reader and how to use it to access the library’s resources.

Free Diabetes Self-Management Workshop offered: Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley will present a free diabetes self-management workshop with free nutritional assessments at Merrimack Valley Hospital. The workshop runs for six weeks and will be held on Tuesdays from Jan. 28 to March 4, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Merrimack Valley Hospital, 140 Lincoln Ave. A complimentary lunch will be provided by the hospital. Trip to the Peabody Essex Museum planned: The Council on Aging is planning a trip to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem on Thursday, Jan. 30 for a guided tour of the “Impressionists on the Water” exhibition.
