Halloween is nearly here and the city has scheduled trick or treating for Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
Residents who will be greeting costumed children are reminded to put on their porch lights.
Although Halloween is always Oct. 31, Haverhill usually hold trick or treating the last Saturday in October. Last year the event had to be postponed for several days after an early season snowstorm caused widespread power outages and knocked down trees and limbs across the city.
Children should wear costumes with bright colors so drivers can readily see them, and parents should check the candy their kids bring home, police said.
Police advise that particularly for older residents, it’s a good idea not to let older trick-or-treaters into their homes.
