Woodcarving class resumes at Council on Aging: The city’s Council on Aging has resumed the wood carving class on Fridays at 10 a.m. Students will be taught by master carver Fred Arakelian. A carving kit of supplies will be provided at a one-time-per-project charge of $18. Carving knives will be loaned to participants for free. Course cost is $5 per class for an eight-week session. Seniors Tap Dancing class offered: The Council on Aging will offer a new tap dancing class for area seniors. The class will meet on Mondays at 11 a.m. at the Citizens Center, 10 Welcome St., and the cost is $5 per class. Instructor Susan Tibbets will lead the class. Video Production Club meeting: The Video Production Club will meet at the public library on May 20 from 4 to 6 p.m. Would you like to learn neat tricks about the art of film making? Join the Video Production Club and explore different ways to make videos and make our own. Meetings are held in the Teen Zone. This program is presented with federal money provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners. :Exchange Club celebration: The Exchange Club of Haverhill will host its second annual recognition night on May 21 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Maria’s Family Restaurant, 81 Essex St. The event will include the Ace and Youth Scholarship Award, which is presented to students for excellence in educational achievements and overcoming adversity; the Book of Golden Deeds, which honors a local community member who has gone above and beyond in volunteering and supporting his or her community without any recognition; and So Proudly We Hail, which recognizes one resident and one organization in Haverhill for displaying the American flag. The event will conclude with a recognition of the club’s major sponsors and supporters from the past year. Tickets are $20 per person and will include hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, presentations and award ceremonies.
