:First time home buyer training offered: Community Action Inc. is offering a first time home buyer education workshop for area residents beginning May 23 from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Presidential Gardens Community Room, 140 Evergreen Drive, Bradford. Participants will receive comprehensive information offered by housing professionals including bank lenders, buyer/seller real estate brokers, housing attorneys, insurance agents home inspectors and credit counselors. A state-approved certificate is awarded after completion of the three-night course. Classes are May 23, 28 and 30. The cost is $60 per household. Methuen Sons of Italy annual road race: The Methuen Sons of Italy, formerly the Lawrence Sons of Italy, will hold their 24th annual 5K Road Race, Health Walk and 1K Youth Run on May 25. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The walk and youth run begin at 9:30 a.m. and the race begins at 10 a.m. at the new lodge, 459 Merrimack St., (Route 110) Methuen. The race supports the Veterans Northeast Outreach Center in Haverhill and Merrimack Valley Hospice. Runners and walkers may designate a person or persons to honor on their application form. Certificates will be presented with the honorees’ names. A ceremony will honor our armed forces, our veterans, and especially our Vietnam veterans. Those finishing both the Sons of Italy Race and the Baldi 5-Mile River Run and Fitness Walk (May 26 in Haverhill) will receive a free commemorative cup. There is a reduced fee for those entering both races. A homemade pasta meal will be served after the races. More information and registration is available at www.coolrunning.com.
