Softball team looks to avenge loss to Lowell

---- — The softball team kept its playoff hopes alive last week by winning two of three games. The Hillies pounded Lawrence 22-10, fell to Lowell 11-8 and edged Andover 10-8. The Hillies will try to avenge that Lowell loss on Friday, when they host the Red Raiders at 4 p.m.

Girls lacrosse 6-6 heading into final six games

The girls lacrosse team completed a season sweep of Tewksbury with a convincing 18-7 victory last week. The Hillies are also fighting for a playoff berth and head into their final six games with a 6-6 record. The boys lacrosse team has a busy finish on tap, with five games scheduled over the final eight days. The two teams will play a home doubleheader on May 21 vs. Shawsheen, with the girls playing at 5 p.m. followed by the boys at 6:30 p.m.

Track teams to compete at Championship Meet

Alex Mahew continued his impressive track season with another strong performance at the Andover Booster meet on Saturday. The senior won the 200-meter dash and came in second in the long jump against a strong field. Ryan Canney placed third in the javelin. Riley Gilmore placed sixth in the 1-mile and Jackie Solimine was seventh in the 800-meter run for the girls. Both teams will compete in the 2013 MVC Championship Meet on Saturday at Andover.

Girls tennis team improves

The girls tennis team pulled out a 3-2 win over Notre Dame last week to improve to 8-3. The final home match of the season for the Hillies will be on May 20, when they host Central Catholic. The final boys tennis match is May 16. Haverhill will take on Triton at the Winnekenni Tennis Courts.

Boys volleyball prepares to close out regular season

The boys volleyball team had its six-match winning streak snapped at Lawrence last week. The team has qualified for the playoffs and brings a 9-5 record into the final three matches of the season. The Hillies will close out the regular season at MVC Day against Andover on May 20.

Baseball team faces Tewksbury at home

The Hillie baseball team came away with two big wins last week, defeating Lowell 6-4 and Lawrence 2-1. The Hillies are 7-7 overall and 6-5 in league play, with six games remaining. The final home game of the year will be May 18, when the Hillies host Tewksbury at 11 a.m. at Trinity Stadium.

Car Wash May 18

The Haverhill Lacrosse Boosters will hold a car wash on May 18 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Water Street Fire Station. All proceeds will benefit the Haverhill High School boys and girls lacrosse programs.
