If you haven’t seen one of Nissan’s LEAF cars, you probably will soon.
The Greater Haverhill Chamber of Commerce has leased one of these all-electric and emissions-free vehicles, and, in partnership with Covanta Energy Inc., will be plastering it with logos and scannable QR codes linking to their websites and to those of other businesses and partners.
Monthly QR code contests will be held to encourage smartphone users to link directly to a company video or a mobile-enabled company website, which chamber officials said is another opportunity for members to promote their businesses.
“I feel that it is important to show that our organization is committed to the local and global environment and that we need to advocate strongly for energy efficiency and reduced reliance on foreign oil and fossil fuels,” said chamber President Sven Amirian. “I am thankful to Covanta for stepping up to champion the cause with us.”
Amirian said the chamber’s new 107 horse power, zero-emissions LEAF will become a visible vehicle in the city and will illustrate the commitment of the business community to issues surrounding energy and the environment. The chamber’s Nissan is a three-year leased vehicle that will be parked prominently throughout Greater Haverhill and appear throughout the chamber’s 14-community service area for all appointments, events and promotional engagements. All partners on the LEAF will be featured and visible everywhere the car goes, Amirian said.
According to Nissan, “LEAF” stands for Leading, Environmentally Friendly, Affordable, Family Car.
In addition to the QR code contest, the chamber will occasionally feature a “take your picture with the LEAF” contest to encourage the community to actively seek out the vehicle and learn more about the green initiative and the supporting partners.
The vehicle will be on display for the first time at the chamber’s 97th annual dinner — Thursday, June 20, at DiBurro’s function hall. Featured keynote speaker is Dave McGillivray, race director of the Boston Marathon.
Sponsorships of the vehicle are being accepted through May 23, and information on logo format, deadlines and billing may be found at www.haverhillchamber.com or by calling 978-373-5663. For more information, contact Beth Morrow at firstname.lastname@example.org.
