The countdown continues to next month’s 43rd annual Santa Fund Hole-in-One Contest — and with it will come a chance for golfers to win prizes while helping needy families at holiday time.
All money raised from the event will go to The Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund, which distributes money through the Salvation Army and Haverhill Community Action. Money goes to families who otherwise could not afford to buy Christmas gifts for their children.
Besides helping those families, participants will have a chance to win golf equipment and other prizes.
Local businesses donate gift certificates and other items as prizes for the tournament. To participate, golfers will pay $8 for a bucket of balls and drive them as close as they can to the hole, which is 150 yards away.
The contest will be Oct. 10, 11 and 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. and Oct. 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Garrison Golf Center on Hilldale Avenue.
Last year, the event raised $4,110 despite poor weather. Rain eliminated one day of the 2011 contest, but it still generated the same amount of money as it did the year before.
