The Haverhill Gazette

---- — The Hillies brought home another conference title. The boys basketball team clinched at least a share of the 2012-13 Merrimack Valley Conference Regular Season Title, its first title since 2005. The Hillies have gone 9-3 over their last 12 games and head into their final two league games with a 7-5 MVC mark. They have also qualified for the MIAA playoffs. It is the fourth MVC crown for Haverhill this year, adding to the golf, girls swimming and girls soccer titles from the fall.

Skiers finish season

The Haverhill ski teams wrapped up the 2013 race season this past week, competing in the Interscholastic and Bove Scholarship races at Bradford. Freshman Jessica Begin led the way on the girls side, racing at the No. 1 position for most of the season. Seniors Mary Lovely, Erin Doherty and Shayna Fanitini each wrapped up successful careers for the Hillies. On the boys side, senior Egan Davis was the top racer, followed closely by sophomore Sam Kallery.

Hillie swimmers to compete at Harvard

The recent storm had some significant impact on athletic events. The most notable was the cancellation of the 2013 MIAA Sectional Swim Meets. The MIAA State Finals will be held Sunday at Harvard University and several Hillies will compete. Matt Amadeo, Sean Driscoll, Max Koffman and Nick Roy will each compete in multiple swim events, while Sam Clough will compete in the one-meter dive.

Track team to compete in state championship meet

The weather also forced cancellation of the 2013 MVC Indoor Track Championship Meet. The Hillies will compete in the upcoming MIAA Division 1 State Championship Meet at the Reggie Lewis Center on Saturday.

Hillie girl records rare triple double

Senior Molly Hoopes had one of her best career games last Tuesday, when she recorded a rare triple double (15 points, 17 rebounds, 12 blocked shots). The Hillie girls basketball season wrapped up this past week with games against Chelmsford and Everett.

Final home game for hockey team

The Hillie hockey team has just four games remaining. The Hillies will play their final home game this Saturday, when they host Methuen at 7 p.m. They will wrap up the season with two games in the annual Newburyport Tournament. Haverhill is 3-5-2 over its last 10 games.
