Merrimack Valley Hospice, an organization affiliated with Home Health and HomeCare, Inc. and dedicated to providing end-of-life care, is offering an eight-week free hospice training program through Northern Essex Community College beginning Monday, Sept. 27.
Classes will take place from 9 to 11 a.m. at Riverwalk Center at 360 Merrimack St. in Lawrence.
Merrimack Valley Hospice will use lectures, stories and small group classroom exercises to teach the volunteers how to provide practical and emotional support to patients dealing with "life-limiting illnesses" and their loved ones.
At the program's end, volunteers will receive a certificate.
The organization serves more than 90 communities throughout the Merrimack Valley and southern New Hampshire. In June of 2009, they opened a Haverhill office at 360 North Avenue.
