Firefighters are responsible for putting out fires, but in this case they want things to heat up.
In a tasty way, that is.
The Haverhill Firefighting Museum will hold its seventh annual Chili Cook-Off on Sept. 28 from 6 to 9 p.m.
Prizes will be awarded for best individual chili, best fire house chili and best restaurant entry. The event will also feature door prizes, a silent auction, a 50/50 raffle, food and beverages.

Jazz performance on tap: Enjoy the music of jazz pianist and composer Thelonious Monk when Bobby Spellman and Friends perform at the Chit Chat Lounge, 103 Washington St., on Sept. 29 from 6 to 10 p.m.
A West Newbury native and jazz trumpeter, Spellman will be performing music by eccentric bebop icon Thelonious Monk and will be joined by drummer and Ipswich native Connor Baker, as well as Boston-based improvisers Tyler Burchfield, Damien Scalise, and Frank Ojeda. Admission is free. This is a 21-and-older event.
Tattersall Farm Day postponed to Sunday: The Trustees of Tattersall Farm and the Haverhill Rotary Club have postponed Tattersall Farm Day to Sept. 29.
The event was scheduled to be held on Sept. 22 from noon to 5 p.m., but was postponed due to concerns for heavy rain and resulting wet fields. The farm is at 542 North Broadway.
Tattersall Farm Day is a cultural and educational event for people of all ages that will feature more than 70 vendors and exhibitors. New to the event this year is a scarecrow contest sponsored by the Haverhill Garden Club. The contest is open to individuals, families, teams, schools, churches, clubs, businesses and other organizations.
