Firefighting Museum to heat up with annual Chili Cook-Off

Bobby Bell walk/race set: The 27th Annual Bobby Bell 5-Mile Road Race/Walk will be Oct. 13 at the Lasting Room Grille, 122 Washington St.

The walk begins at 10:30 a.m., followed by the race at 11 a.m. The fee is $25 for pre-entry and $30 post entry. Free t-shirts go to the first 70 walker entries and first 260 runner entries. Numerous awards in various age, weight, and specialty categories will be presented. There will be ender graded scoring.

A buffet will follow along with a disc jockey and raffle prizes. Thee will be no gender divisions. The event benefits local scholarships, the Haverhill Police Auxiliaries, Haverhill’s Brightside and the Andover Striders. Walk for Youth planned: The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill will hold its ninth annual Walk for Youth on Oct. 19 starting at 10 a.m.

Rain date is Oct. 20. The walk will begin and end at the club, 55 Emerson St. The family friendly 2-mile route throughout Haverhill’s downtown is designed for people of all ages and walking abilities. Bottled water and light refreshments will be provided. The first 300 people to register will receive Walk for Youth T-shirts.

Money raised enhances the club’s after-school programs, including homework help, daily nutritious snacks, computer center, fine arts program, floor hockey and basketball leagues, cheerleading, dance, martial arts, volleyball, teen programs and game room activities.

Each person who registers will be given a pledge form for individual or corporate sponsorship. Entry forms are available by calling Kathleen Pruett at 978-374-6171, ext. 102. In lieu of walking, donations can be sent to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Haverhill, 55 Emerson St., Haverhill, MA 01830. The club serves an average of 275 girls and boys daily and has an annual membership of over 800.
