Haverhill's Hair Cuttery, in the Walgreens Plaza at 300 Main St. and a participant in the 11th annual "Share a Haircut" program, has donated 54 haircuts to charity.
From Aug. 1 to Aug. 15, any time a child 18 or younger received a haircut at any of the 900 Hair Cuttery salons, a free haircut was donated to a child who may not be able to afford one.
"We are extremely proud of the 'Share a Haircut' program," said Dennis Ratner, founder and CEO of Hair Cuttery. "It creates the opportunity for children to help other children in the community, and teaches them that a simple deed can make a big difference to someone less fortunate."
In New England, 35 salons racked up 2,500 haircuts, and in total, the 2010 "Share a Haircut" effort will provide 60,000 free haircuts to disadvantaged children across the nation.
"In these troubled economic times, we all need to do whatever we can to help those in need," Ratner said.
In Haverhill, the free cuts were given to children receiving services from the state child protection agency, the Division of Youth and Family Services.
