The Lamp Post

The Lamplighter can't help but wonder if the "Townie" movie script has made any progress since the book was released and there was talk last year about it being made into a movie. Longtime Haverhill resident Andre Dubus III wrote the successful memoir about his teenage years and young adult years growing up in Haverhill.

Following his front page article in The Eagle-Tribune, candlepin bowler Chris Sargent of Haverhill was the focus of an article in "Yankee'' magazine. Sargent is a record-setting bowler who is well known in the region.

Despite the tragic outcome of the Super Bowl for locals, the Lamplighter hopes the Pats will strike back next season and again compete for the championship.

Speaking of the Super Bowl, Mayor James Fiorentini had a friendly bet with Joe Metelski, former mayor of Bedminster, N.J. That is the hometown of Fiorentini's wife, Martha. The men wagered the cost of dinner in their respective hometowns.
