The Haverhill Gazette
---- — We’re in the final stretch toward Christmas, and the community has been helpful raising money for needy families.
But Santa still needs a boost so all Haverhill families get gifts under their trees.
The community has given $11,014 so far this holiday season to The Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund. Local organizations such as the Salvation Army and Community Action give out the money to needy families in the community.
With just a few days left until Christmas, you can still donate to the fund and make a difference for families who might otherwise have an unhappy holiday.
This year’s goal is $15,000. The money donated so far has surpassed two-thirds of that goal.
You can give to the fund simply by hitting a few keys on your computer. The Gazette has an online site where people can make donations. Just use the link hgazette.com/santafund and the instructions will appear.
You can also donate the old-fashioned way, by mailing a check to the Gazette Santa Fund, care of The Eagle-Tribune, 100 Turnpike St., North Andover, MA 01845, or by dropping off a donation at The Eagle-Tribune offices at that address.
If you mail or drop off a donation, you can fill out a coupon appearing inside the Gazette to go with the donation. You can also write your name and address on a separate piece of paper. Donors can list the name of someone in whose memory the money is given.
The 43rd annual Haverhill Gazette Santa Fund Hole-in-One Contest in October at Garrison Golf Center kicked off this year’s Santa Fund, raising $5,232 — 25 percent more than the total from last year’s contest. Garrison owners Ted and Mary Murphy encourage residents to donate to the fund.
