Doctor's move to Merrimack Valley Hospital continues trend

The Haverhill Gazette

---- — Merrimack Valley Hospital has announced that primary care physician William Ingram has joined Steward Medical Group and will begin practice in Haverhill on Jan. 2.

His move is the latest in a trend of doctors joining the hospital and setting up offices in a building attached to the hospital. Merrimack Valley Hospital officials said the arrangement is designed to make it easy for patients to receive testing and treatment at the hospital as they visit their doctors.

A graduate of University of Pennsylvania Medical School, Ingram completed his internship and junior residency at Boston City Hospital, and served as senior resident in Medicine at Boston University Hospital. He is board certified in Internal Medicine as well as Quality Assurance and Utilization Review. His special interests include heart disease, prostate cancer and nutrition.

“I am very much looking forward to being a part of Steward Medical Group and Merrimack Valley Hospital, and am pleased to continue my practice of internal medicine there,” said Ingram, who has been in practice in Newburyport since 1977.

Ingram will join Dr. Marcia Chatfield at Advanced Internal Medicine of Haverhill. Their office is located in Suite 303 of Merrimack Medical Center, the office building at 62 Brown St. attached to Merrimack Valley Hospital.

“I am proud to welcome Dr. Ingram to Merrimack Valley Hospital,’’ said hospital President Michael Collins. “His experience in internal medicine will make him a valued member of our community and allow patients greater access to primary care services.”

While in practice in Newburyport, Ingram was on staff at Anna Jaques Hospital, where he served as chairman of the Performance Improvement Committee, on the Executive Committee, as chairman of the Department of Medicine, and as an emergency department doctor. He was also a board member of the Whittier IPA.

He is an investigator in clinical trials for flu, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, hypertension and Alzheimer’s disease with ActivMed Practices and Research.

Merrimack Valley Hospital maintains 105 acute care beds and 17 adult behavioral medicine beds.
