George V. Mitakos, 76


HAVERHILL — George V. Mitakos, 76, of Haverhill, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Caritas Holy Family Hospital in Methuen.

He was born in Filia, Lesvos, Greece on Dec. 23, 1933, son of the late Vasilios and Georgia Mitakos.

George was educated in Greece and joined the Greek Army. He married Aliki Kefala and later resided in Germany for nine years. He then moved back to Greece for three years prior to coming to the U.S. in 1974. He was employed in the auto industry for over 25 years from which he retired.

George was a member of the Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill. He loved his family dearly and enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.

He was the husband of the late Aliki (Kefala) Mitakos who died July 23, 2007, and is survived by his three daughters, Christina Mitakos, Katherine "Kathy" Mitakos and Georgia and her husband Alan York, all of Haverhill; three grandchildren, Aliki, Kassandra and Christina York; and great-grandson, Alan Andrew Loring, all of Haverhill.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend his funeral on Tuesday, July 27 at 9 a.m. from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Bradford Funeral Home, 210 South Main St., Bradford, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m. at the Holy Apostles Church, Winter Street, Haverhill. Burial will follow in the Linwood Cemetery, Haverhill.
