CHESTER, N.H. — Albert J. Simes passed away very peacefully on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House.
Albert was born in Haverhill and was the son of the late Albert and Rita (Jordan) Simes.
Al served in the United States Navy and was proud to be a Seabee. He later became member of Local 138 for 45 years where he worked as a plumber/pipefitter.
For many years, Al was very active in the Groveland chapter of the Knights of Columbus and was a third degree knight as well as an honorary lifetime member. For many years Al played in various softball leagues in Haverhill. He was active in the bowling league at St. Joseph's. Golfing was another one of his favorite sports and he was a member of the Garrison Golf League for many years. Al was also an avid New England sports fan.
Al was a very loving and giving person and he enjoyed life to the fullest. Albert's favorite past times included dancing, playing cards, swimming, fishing and watching old movies. He participated in many 45's tournaments and was a member of the Walnut Square Association. He loved animals, especially his pet, Foofi. Al loved family events and enjoyed all celebrations immensely. He loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 25 years, Elizabeth (Snowdon) Simes; his two children, Joseph and Lisa; three sisters and two brothers, several nieces and nephews and many friends. Al will be greatly missed.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends may call on Monday, July 26, 2010 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Brookside Chapel & Funeral Home, 116 Main St., Route 121A, Plaistow, N.H. His funeral will be private per Albert's request. Donations may be made to Fremont Animal Hospital, 125 South Road, Fremont, NH 03044 or the Kimi Nichols Center, 17 East Road, Plaistow, NH 03865.
