Viera, FL — Wilbur Fiske Ball, USCG CWO4 (ret.), passed away on Sept. 1, 2012, in Florida. Born May 26, 1934 in Haverhill, Mass., the son of the late Wilbur Fiske and Beatrice Emma (George) Ball. Wil graduated from Haverhill High in 1952. He is survived by his wife, Debbie (Smith) Ball of Viera, Fla.; sister, Phyllis (John G.) Williams of Haverhill; four children, Thomas (Duncan, Okla.); Susan Lucas (Bremen, Ga.); Cherryl Ball Wallballich (Frisco, Texas); David (Niceville, Fla.); stepdaughter, Krista Smith (Normal, Ill.); 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, Raymond. Wil was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery on April 16, 2013, with full military honors. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2013, aboard the Captain's Lady at Plum Island.

Jacksonville, Florida — Robert E. McGauley died January 11, 2014, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born to Joseph and Frieda McGauley in Haverhill, Massachusetts on September 27, 1922, he graduated from Haverhill High School in 1939. After joining the Army in 1943, Bob served with the 75th Infantry Division, was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and honorably discharged in 1946 with a Purple Heart. After marrying his sweetheart, Kathryn Ryan, Bob attended Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, graduating in 1952 with a degree in Civil Engineering. In 1954 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where Bob joined State Farm Insurance Companies in 1958 as an agent. After three years he was appointed Agency Manager and continued in that position for 20 years until retiring in 1980. During those years he was a charter member and past president of the Arlington Toastmasters Club and president of GAMA (General Agents and Managers Association). After retiring he loved to play golf, but especially loved to sing, as he had all his life. In WWII he was the vocalist with the Army Hospital dance band in Europe and performed in many musical productions during his military service and in college, especially favoring Gilbert and Sullivan Operettas. Bob was a church soloist all his adult life and wrote church music. He was the former choir director, a 44-year choir member and past treasurer of Arlington Congregational Church. He also had a great love of barbershop singing and sang for many years with the River City Barbershop Chorus. He leaves his son, Richard (Nancy); daughters, Barbara Jean Wick (Alan), Laurie Nowlin (Carrol); six grandchildren; one great-grandchild and his sister, Florence. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Kathryn, and two brothers, Henry and Herman.Continued ...

Born November 29, 1928, in Haverhill, MA, she was the daughter of Eston L. and Alice E. (Rooney) Spaulding. On September 13, 1953, Jean married Charles W. “Bill” Clement in Haverhill, MA. Bill and Jean moved to Ypsilanti in 1954 and to Ann Arbor in 1970. She retired from the Ann Arbor Public Schools in 1986, after seventeen years as a secretary. Jean was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life and she was an active volunteer within the church. Loved by all who knew her, she was known for her giving heart and selfless spirit, always putting others first. Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren. Jean is survived by her husband of 60 years, Charles W. “Bill” Clement of Ann Arbor; their three children, sons, Charles D. Clement (Rosanna) of Dexter, Richard K.
