Rockland, MA — Raymond Patrick Lyons, of Rockland, formerly of Haverhill, died on Friday, May 30, 2014 at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater. Ray graduated from St. James High School in Haverhill in 1936, and received a Certificate in Business Administration from Babson College, Sept. 20, 1946.
Ray retired from South Shore Bank, Quincy, Mass. as a Vice President in June of 1984. First Lieutenant Lyons was a decorated World War II veteran, serving as a Navigator in the 8th Air Force, flying in a B17 Flying Fortress in 25 missions over Europe. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.
Ray was the loving husband of the late Dorothy T. Bresnahan, to whom he was wed for 44 years. He was the beloved father of R. Patrick Lyons and his wife, Katherine of Rockland; Maureen Lyons Vernon of Mansfield and Nancy Lyons-Sharpe of Duxbury. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Joan Lyons Cullinan of Hyannis.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, June 2, 2014.
Burial was in Holy Family Cemetery in Rockland.
