HAVERHILL — Mr. Cornelius J. "Connie" Griffin, 90, of Haverhill, passed away Saturday, April 4, 2009 at Hannah Duston Healthcare in Haverhill.
He was born in Glenbeigh County Kerry, Ireland, on Nov. 27, 1918, son of the late Daniel and Margaret (McMahon) Griffin. He moved to the U.S. as a child and was educated in the local schools. Mr. Griffin was an Army and Air Force veteran of World War II, stationed in China, Burma and India.
He was employed at Mohican's in downtown Haverhill and then later at the former Western Electric for many years until his retirement.
Connie was a member of St. James Parish and its Holy Name Society in Haverhill, and also the Telephone Pioneers of America. He enjoyed bowling, gardening and was proud of his Irish ancestry. He and his wife also traveled extensively throughout their years together.
He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Georgia (Karampalas) Griffin who died in 2006. He is survived by his brother Patrick Shane and his wife Mary of Sierra Vista, Ariz., devoted sister-in-law Hope T. and her husband James Greene of Haverhill, nieces and nephews, Sandra Rosselot, Gregory Karampalas, Nicholas Kay, Jr., Stephen Karampalas, Kathy Stanton, Katina Kostoulis, Susan Harrison, as well as Michael, James and Richard Shane, Kathleen Kempley, and Peggy Perry; grandnieces and nephews include Kristina, Gregory, and Lily Stanton, and Jordan Stamateas.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral on Friday, April 10, at 10 a.m. from the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer St., Haverhill, followed by a Pro Burial Service at 11 a.m. in St. James Church, Winter Street, Haverhill.
