Charles Gates, 68

Charles E. Gates, 68, of Sun City Center, FL died Friday evening, February 17, 2012, following a long illness. He was born and raised in Haverhill, MA, son of the late Ralph and Rolanda (Parenteau) Gates.

Mr. Gates served in the United States Marine Corps. He was later employed for over 25 years as a mechanic at Northern Essex Community College, prior to his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed spending his free time outdoors or tinkering on a project, and always welcomed the company of family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, May (Lapierre) Gates of Sun City Center, FL; three sons, Charles R. Gates of Naples FL, Tony Gates and his wife Maggie Gates of Naples, FL, Dana Gates of Japan, and a daughter, Katrina and her husband Scott McCurley of Grantham, NH; five granddaughters and one grandson; a brother, Ralph Gates of Florida; four sisters, Pearl Moghabghab of South Carolina, Yolanda Daylor, Alice Charoux, and Marion Francis, all of Haverhill; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial mass will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at 2 PM at the West Congregational Church, 767 Broadway, Haverhill, MA. Following, relatives and friends are invited to honor his life at the home of Yolanda Daylor, 212 Liberty Street, Haverhill, MA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
