Haverhill — Athena (Demiris) Mancusi, 93, a lifelong resident of Haverhill, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2012, at Merrimack Valley Hospital in Haverhill.
She was born in Haverhill on January 6, 1919, daughter of the late Miltiades and Katerina (Zarbolias) Demiris.
Athena was educated in Haverhill, graduating from the former Greek-American School and Haverhill High School. She enjoyed traveling with her late husband, Horace P. Mancusi and later with her siblings. Athena loved dancing, cooking (especially baking Greek pastries) and teaching her children and grandchildren her favorite recipes.
Athena was a member of the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church in Haverhill.
She is survived by her daughter, Rose Theos; son, John L. Theos and his wife Nancy; daughter Rhonda J. Mancusi-West and her husband Thomas all of Haverhill; sister, Claire Mavrofrides of Atkinson, N.H.; brother-in-law, Myron Woodman of Atkinson, N.H.; six grandchildren, Lisa Mazzola, Stephanie DiBurro, Jennifer Theos, John Theos, Michael DiCristofaro and Nicholas DiCristofaro; ten great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Aristides Demiris, Frances Woodman and Beatrice Demiris.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her Funeral on Wednesday, October 17 at 10 a.m. from the H. L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Home, 106 Summer Street, Haverhill, followed by a Funeral Service at 11 a.m. at the Holy Apostles Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church, Haverhill. Entombment will follow at the Linwood Mausoleum in Haverhill. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, October 16, from 5-8 p.m., at the Funeral Home.
