HAVERHILL, MA — Elizabeth DiSanta Coppola, 92, passed away Saturday September 29 at Maplewood Manor. She was born on August 21, 1920 in Haverhill, daughter of the late Domenico Palleria of Cantanzaro, Calabria, Italy and Adelina (Borelli) Palleria of Wilmington, Del. Elizabeth graduated Haverhill High School in 1938. A savy, dedicated, and intelligent woman, Elizabeth served the City of Haverhill in numerous capacities. She assisted in writing the Book of Haverhill in World War II (Haverhill War Records Committee, 1946). Elizabeth served the class of 1938 for over 60 years on the Haverhill High School Reunion Committee. She was also the chairman of the Haverhill Republican City Committee for several years, and was extemely active in political and civic city affairs. "Betty" as friends and family called her, was a winner of Haverhill's own Miss Italy Pageant.
She is survived by three children, Mary-Elizabeth Goodhue of Moultonboro, N.H., Philip J. Coppola and his wife Kay of Bradford, and Rocco J. Coppola of Amesbury; a sister, Edith "Lea" Cox of Norwell. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jane and Jonathon Gilhooly of Md., Laurie Gulla and Angela Coppola of N.H.; Philip Copolla, Jr. and Andrew Coppola of Bradford. She is also survived by by several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held Friday October 5 at 11:30 a.m. from the Paul C. Rogers Family-Scatamacchia Funeral Home, 334 Main St. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Sacred Hearts Church at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery.
