Haverhill — Gertrude “Trudy” (Shevenell) Twombly, 95, passed away peacefully February 25, 2013 at the Watch Hill Manor, Westerly, R.I.
The daughter of the late John and Cordelia (Paquette) Shevenell was born August 8, 1917 in Haverhill. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Albert “Chub” Twombly, and siblings, Marie Stockdale, Marguerite Faust, John “Bud” Shevenell and Jane Balletto.
Gertrude was an accomplished seamstress and needleworker. She was also widely known for her unique flair for style and holiday outfits.
Gertrude was also fondly known as the Dover/Somersworth N.H. “Avon Lady” earning many incentive awards and accolades which she took tremendous pride in.
After her husband passed away, she spent the last 20 years between St. Petersburg, Fla. and Westerly, R.I.
She is survived by two children, Dianne (Jon) Babcock of Westerly, R.I. and Richard Twombly and his fiancé, Evangeline Levesque of Dover, N.H. She was known as “Nana” to her grandchildren, Rick Twombly, Jody (Kristen) Twombly and Kelly (Scott) McMullen, Heidi (William) Maclay, Timothy (Amy) Babcock, Chad Babcock and Ryan (Lynne) Babcock; and twelve great-grandchildren.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours were held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at the Wiggin Purdy Funeral Home, 655 Central Ave. Dover, N.H. A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 150 Central Ave. Dover, N.H. on Thursday, March 7, 2013. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, Newburyport, Mass.
