Haverhill — Rev. Allen grew up in Georgetown where he graduated from Perley High School in 1952. He then received both an undergraduate degree from Holy Cross and his Navy Commission in 1956. On completion of three years naval service he entered the seminary of the Maryknoll Missionary Society. Upon ordination as a priest he was assigned to teach at the Maryknoll Seminary in St. Louis, MO where he received his Master's degree from George Washington Univ. Upon closure of the seminary he began his missionary duties with an initial assignment to Bolivia to learn Spanish. He was then assigned to a four church rural parish in Licanten, Chile, where he served for over 25 years. His service was interrupted by a year of study in Rome and the Holy Land. He returned to the U.S. in 1983 due to the onset of Alzheimer's Disease. He spent his last years at St. Theresa's, a part of the Maryknoll Center House in Maryknoll, N.Y.
He is survived by his twin brother, Edward P. Allen; brothers, Richard and Robert Allen and sister Joyce Merrick as well as, numerous nieces and nephews
ARRANGEMENTS: A rosary service was held at St. Theresa"s in Maryknoll, N.Y. on Monday, October 1 followed by a wake at the Maryknoll Seminary. A funeral mass was held October 2 at the Maryknoll Seminary.
