Richard "Dick" E. Hubley

Sandown, NH — Richard “Dick” E. Hubley, of Sandown, NH passed away on August 28, 2012 at Parkland Medical Center, Derry, NH.

He was born July 17, 1925 in Haverhill, MA, son of Elmer Adams Hubley and Mabel (Montgomery) Hubley. A lifelong resident of Haverhill, MA, before moving to Sandown NH in September of 2005. He attended Haverhill Public Schools, graduating fro Haverhill High School, class of 1943.

After graduation from high school, Dick served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, where he participated in the battle of Okinawa, serving with The Headquarters Detachment, 216th Quartermaster Battalion. When the war ended in 1945, his unit was transferred to Korea to serve in the Army of occupation. He received the WWII Victory Medal, American Campaign Ribbon Bar, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in March of 1946 with the rank of Technical Sergeant.

He attended Merrimack College and was employed by Western Electric Company for 35 years, retiring in May 1981 as Department Chief of General Accounting. After his retirement, he was hired as a consultant for American Telephone & Telegraph International in Bunbeg, Ireland with the Telectron Plant in 1982 and again in 1984.

He was a member of the baseball team in high school and also played for “The Cleary Cleaners” team in the Inter Town League in the 1950’s. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Amesbury Country Club for over 50 years.

He served on the Budget Panels of the Haverhill United Fund for several years. In 1964, he became a Corporator and later a Trustee of Pentucket Bank, where he was currently serving as Chairman of the Audit Committee.

He volunteered at the Council of Aging for several years, assisting the elderly with the preparation of their income taxes. He was a former volunteer at the Special Collections room of the Haverhill Public Library. He was formerly President of the Griffin-White Home for Aged Men and Couples, and was currently serving on the Board of the Griffin-White Foundation.

Dick was a member of the Hampstead Congregational Church, serving as Treasurer and Trustee; Friends of the Hampstead Library; Essex Society of Genealogists, and the New England Historic and Genealogical Society of Boston. With his wife, he published a book, “The Descendants of Nathaniel Brickett of Newbury , Massachusetts.”

He leaves his wife of 66 years, Claire (Wardwell) Hubley, who he married on April 14, 1946. Also one daughter, Dale and her husband John “Jack” Clayton of Plaistow, NH. Four grandchildren, Robert Lane and Charles Clayton of Plaistow, NH; Danielle (Lane) Solari and her husband Andrew of Falmouth, ME; Erin (Clayton) Stephens and her husband Jason of North Andover, two great grandchildren, Sofia and Arabella Solari; brother Robert Hubley of Derry, NH, 2 nieces, one nephew and several cousins.

ARRANGEMENTS: His Memorial Service was held on Saturday, September 1st at 1:00 pm at the Hampstead Congregational Church. Interment was private in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Salem, NH. Arrangements were by H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, Haverhill and Bradford.     Lexington, MA — Jason S. Cohen, passed away on June 3, after a brief illness. Formerly of Haverhill and Andover, Jason divided his last years between Lexington and Cape Cod. For 64 years the beloved husband of Sydelle S. (Singer). Devoted father of Susan Cohen of Natick, Nancy Cohen of Lenox, and David Cohen of Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., and proud grandfather of seven. After graduating from Boston Latin School and the University of Massachusetts, Jason served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II, and received his J.D. from B.U. Law School. He practiced as an attorney in Haverhill for more than 40 years, and acted as counsel and performed public service for many institutions, including Bradford College and the Pentucket Savings Bank.

    Haverhill — Theodore "Ted" Winter, 78, died Tuesday May 28, 2013, at The Oxford. He was born in Lowell, October 10, 1934, son of Emmett and Selma (Ristu) Winter. He was a graduate of Lowell High School, and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from Lowell Tech. He began his career at Western Electric, then to Bell Labs, and was retired from Lucent Technologies where he was a Mechanical Engineer. Ted was a member of the Victor Emmanual Lodge, Order of the Sons of Italy, and the Methuen Jaycees. He is survived by his wife, Grace (Finocchiaro) Winter; a son, Theodore Winter of Haverhill; two daughters, Sherry Deblois and her friend, Thomas Spada, of Haverhill, and Kimberly Winter and her friend, Christopher Howe, of Sandown, N.H.; three grandchildren, David DeBlois and his fiancee, Felicia Sanscartier, of Atkinson, N.H.; and Edyn and Bryce Winter of W. Newbury. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

    Haverhill, MA — Angelina A. Conte, 92, died Sunday May 12, 2013 at Lawrence General Hospital. She was born in Haverhill, February 24, 1921, daughter of Federico and Gemma (Grassi) Conte. She was educated in Haverhill Schools. She was employed in the local shoe industry, and was retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts where she worked at Salisbury State Reservation, and the Veterans Memorial Skating Rink in Haverhill. When her mother died at an early age, Angie raised her brothers and sisters. She was a second mother to her many nieces and nephews. She is survived by a brother and his wife, Frank and Lena Conte of Haverhill; and a sister, Agnes Bevilacqua of Haverhill; sisters in law, Jennie Conte, and Shirley Conte of Haverhill. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Marino Conte, Americo "Speed" Conte, Alfred Conte, Sebastian "Pee Wee" Conte, Orlando "Lindy" Conti, and Rudolph Conte. She was also predeceased by a sister, Vera Wenige. The family would like to thank the staff at the Hannah Duston Healthcare Center for kindness and care they provided to Angie during her stay there.
