Last week's photo showed a float in the city's 300th anniversary parade in 1940. The float depicted The Haverhill Academy. Riding the float were recent Haverhill High School graduates Barbara Stine and Pierre Kennedy.

Correct answers were sent by Harold Harriman of Estero, Fla., and Stanley Hamel of Seabrook, N.H.

Hamel said he remembers the 300th anniversary celebration clearly, even though he was only 13 at the time in 1940.

"In addition to the parade, school children were asked to make a poster of a city landmark, (I did Tilton's Tower which was demolished a few years later), and the pageant at The Stadium commemorating important events since 1640 was followed by a long and beautiful fireworks display when the play ended," he reminisced.

If you have a photo that would bring back memories such as these, please share it with The Haverhill Gazette. Either mail it to PO Box 991 or e-mail to editor@hgazette.com.
