Don't fear: Obamacare won't ruin access to healthcare
To the editor:
Every time you turn around these days you read in the newspapers someone, usually another woman, saying if the Supreme Court justices roll back Obamacare all women will suffer a grave setback in the care they receive from their doctors. The left is running rampant with this message and wants you to believe that suddenly women in this country have a problem obtaining contraception.
This message is so loud from the left that they now want to force a religion, Catholicism, into providing contraception to its female employees in spite of the fact that it is readily available by other means and more importantly, against their teachings. We should all be concerned about this as our country was founded on the basis of freedom of religion. What religion will be targeted next for not following the mandates of the White House?
Never in all my years have I ever been denied any kind of health treatment because I am a woman. I have always received my mammograms, cervical cancer screenings and contraception without any issues. In fact, all the health care I have received has been nothing but exceptional because of the wonderful and magnificent care we receive in the United States.
The left now wants to frighten women into believing that somehow the care they receive will be micromanaged if we do not rally around Obamacare and it is found unconstitutional by the Supreme Court. Nothing could be further from the truth.
Over the past 40 years, Title X family planning clinics have played a critical role in ensuring access to a broad range of family planning and related preventive health services for millions of low-income or uninsured women and others.
Title X-supported clinics provide a number of related preventive health services, such as patient education and counseling; breast and pelvic examinations; breast and cervical cancer screening according to nationally recognized standards; sexually transmitted disease (STD) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) prevention education, counseling, testing and referral; and pregnancy diagnosis and counseling.
By law, Title X funds may not be used in programs that offer abortion as a method of family planning. Title X funding comes from the tax dollars we all pay.
The very clear difference between Romneycare and Obamacare is that the president's plan will interfere with the insurance I already have in Massachusetts. Clearly the president lied when he said we would all be able to keep our current doctors because we now know we cannot.
Romneycare does not interfere with the insurance I now have and almost 98 percent of the people in Massachusetts have access to excellent health care under his state plan.
There is nothing progressive about Obamacare when it imitates a socialist form of health care. I want the doctors and the nurses making the decisions about my health, not the big finger of the federal government.
Let the people who know what they are doing continue to do the wonderful job they do in taking care of us medically.
