Deveau should have to share his story
Editor's note: This letter refers to Aaron Deveau, 18, who was found guilty last week in Haverhill District Court of texting while driving. His car collided with another car, causing injuries that led to the death of the other driver.
To the editor:
The story of Aaron Deveau being sentenced to a year in jail for texting while driving causing an accident resulting in a death, may result in more damage than intended. I assume the one year was given as a message of the dangers of texting and driving. However, placing him in jail may expose him to "bad apples" that may ruin his life. Perhaps it would be best to make him do a year of speeches to other youths about how it (texting while driving) has changed his life and left him to forever carry the guilt of causing another's death.
