We join with Haverhill in mourning the passing of former Mayor Theodore "Ted" Pelosi Jr., who died early Tuesday morning at Merrimack Valley Hospital. He was 85.

Pelosi was an icon of city politics from the late 1960s into the 1990s. He was elected mayor in 1987, having served as City Council president for 20 years prior to that. -

It says, in essence, don't bother insisting that elected leaders only agree to contracts that their cities and towns can afford. Public employees are entitled to raises — whether municipalities have the money to pay for them or not. -

I shouldn't exclude girls. Neckties have become more fashionable with them, it seems.
I shunned neckties while I was growing up. I can recall the first bowtie my mother purchased for me. I was maybe 4 or 5 at the time and kept taking it off. - Letters to the editor
