Girls Softball League Jamboree

The Haverhill Girls Softball League will have its annual Jamboree on April 26 from noon to 4 p.m. at the American Legion Field, 1314 Main St. This event is open to the public. Admission is free. The league will have an ice-cream truck available. Items for sale include hot dogs, chips and refreshments. This event features a 50/50, and a raffle for a softball bat, glove and Red Sox T-shirts. Items for sale include HGSL sweatshirts, T-shirts and pullover jackets.

Deadline pushed back

Central Catholic High School has extended the deadline for accepting nominations for the 2008 Athletic Hall of Fame. The deadline is Wednesday, April 30.

The induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 15. Athletes who graduated before 2003, coaches and administrators are eligible. For a nomination packet, please contact Peter Paladino, director of athletics, at 978-682-0260 ext. 640 or ppaladino@centralcatholic.net.

YMCA news

The Haverhill YMCA Peewee T-ball league starts at the end of April for 3- to 5-year-olds, as does an adult dodgeball league, and registration is taking place for summer camp. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Information, please call Tracy Fuller 978-374-0506.

Softball registrations

NECC summer hoops

The Northern Essex Community College Summer Basketball League, which offers competitive basketball for adults as well as middle and high school players, runs from June 16 to July 21. Game times are from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday nights. Team fee is $695. Final payment is due by May 2. Games are played indoors at the Sport and Fitness Center on the Haverhill campus. Nine regular season games. The top four teams in each division advance to the playoffs. Teams must have between 10 and 15 players. All roster players will receive a NECC Summer League game shirt. Itty Bitty Baseball

Special soccer program

Eagles Topsoccer, a program for children ages 4-12 with Down syndrome, autism and cerebral palsy, is holding registration. Basketball camp

The fourth annual Matt Bonner basketball camp will take place at the SportsZone in Derry, N.H., from July 7-11. The camp is open to girls and boys from ages 8-16. Registration fee is $195 and it includes camp activities, a camp T-shirt, Spurs basketball, NBA photos of Matt in action, Matt's homework basketball book and boxes of real NBA gear to win. Volunteers needed for Run of the Charles

The 26th annual Run of the Charles Canoe and Kayak Race needs volunteers Sunday, April 27, to help 1,500 paddlers. Tasks include check-in/registration, setup, boat number spotting, safety and cleanup. Experienced canoeists/kayakers are also needed to follow racers. Field hockey clinic

Annual Northeast Field Hockey Clinic will be July 13-16, at The Governor's Academy, Byfield, for beginner, intermediate and advanced field hockey players in grades five through 12. Clinic includes regulation indoor and outdoor tourney play on grass, indoor synthetic surfaces and two new outdoor artificial turf fields. Cost is $465 resident, $345 day, $395 extended day. Haverhill athletics fundraiser

Haverhill High School's athletics department is holding a Discount Card fundraiser to help reduce the cost of running spring sports, help booster clubs raise money for needed equipment for each team and for end-of-year banquets.

Discount cards sell for $20 and 100 percent of the profit on each card goes directly to one of the spring sports. The sport is determined by who sells the card, or the buyer may designate the sport the money is credited to. Discounts will be offered at Applebee's, The Longhorn, Chunky's, Friendly's, The Common Man, The Sagamore and Amesbury golf courses and more.

Cards can be purchased from any Haverhill High School spring athlete. Cards may be ordered by sending $20 to: HHS Athletic Department, 137 Monument St., Haverhill, MA 01832. Checks can be made out to Haverhill High School.

Those who buy cards are asked to include a return address. More information is available from athletic director Pete Shanahan at 978-374-5732.

Boosters need donation
