Middle school girls invited to compete

Haverhill High School head girls basketball coach Larry Snow will run a citywide middle school girls basketball clinic at the high school on Thursday, Nov. 13, from 3 to 5 p.m.

All six middle school teams are invited to participate.

Register for the 2009 Bay State Winter Games

Registration is open for the 2009 Bay State Winter Games, as the annual Olympic-style amateur sporting event celebrates its 24th year. From Friday, Feb. 6, to Sunday, Feb. 8, individual competitions in Alpine skiing and figure skating, and team competition in masters ice hockey will take place. Athletes participating in the Winter Games represent more than 200 Massachusetts communities and range in age from 8 to over 60. Haverhill YMCA events registration is open

Registration is going on for YMCA programs, including swim lessons, gymnastics, adventure classes, the basketball league and more.

The Haverhill Y will celebrate its official 150th birthday on Saturday, Nov. 15. Everyone is welcome to the facility free that day to enjoy birthday cake and to celebrate with the staff, members and volunteers.

Adventure Club at Nettle

After school program

The Haverhill YMCA's after school program, a fun, safe, licensed after school program, offers transportation from all schools in Haverhill to the YMCA where a nutritious snack is served, homework assistance provided, themed curriculum including swimming, gymnastics, rock climbing, gym games, art activities, foosball and air hockey, family events, clubs such as photography, and special projects that positively effect the community. Programming is also provided for teachers' workshops and holidays, and snow days. The program is licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care, which ensures high quality standards are met. Limited spots available; flexible schedule (you can choose 2 - 5 days of care). All participants receive a free YMCA youth membership to use the facility at any time.

Boys and Girls Club of Greater Haverhill news

Sign-ups are going on now until Nov. 17 for Pee Wee floor hockey and until Nov. 20 for basketball for 10-week seasons. The cost is $10 to play each sport, and the goal of the in-house programs at the Boys and Girls Club is to provide a positive experience for their members.

Basketball begins Dec. 6 and is broken into three divisions. Minor league, for students in fourth through sixth grade, plays on Saturdays; major league, for students in seventh through ninth grade, plays on Thursdays; H.S.L., for students in 10th through 12th grade, plays on Tuesdays. Pee Wee floor hockey begins Dec. 5 and is for first- through third-grade students. Hockey games are on Friday nights. For more information, call 978-374-6171 and ask for Juan Ruiz.

Feaster Five registration is available online

The Feaster Five Road Race is taking online registration at www.feasterfive.com for the annual Thanksgiving Day race. Register online before Nov. 22 and you can join more than 7,000 holiday runners and walkers of all levels, from world-class athletes to fast and slow runners and walkers.

This year marks the 21st running of the Feaster Five, which begins with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. on Main Street in Andover at the corner of Route 133 and Route 28 and ends at Brickstone Square. It costs $25 to register for the race online and you can also support the race charity, the Merrimack Valley Hospice House, with an optional $5 donations when you register.

The race is hosted by the Merrimack Valley Striders and managed by Dave McGillivray Sports Enterprises. Major Sponsors include Eagle Tribune Publishing and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care.

Cedardale brings speed school to Haverhill

Parisi Speed School training methods focus on empowering athletes to improve their athletic performance by targeting speed, strength, flexibility, endurance, agility and self-confidence.

Group training sessions will be offered weekday afternoons and evenings as well as Saturday mornings. Special sessions can be arranged for team training at Cedardale or at your team's facility.

All instructors are trained and certified in Parisi Speed School training methods.

Cross country race in Andover set for Nov. 30

The 29th annual 6K (3.5 mile) Cross Country Race at the Andover Country Club will take place on Sunday, Nov. 30, at noon. The Andover Country Club is on Canterbury Street (off Route 133). The race will be run on fairway turf, cart paths and dirt roads and awards will be given in various age divisions, a team category and top three male and female open divisions.

A buffet will be offered by the Andover Country Club. The cost is $12 pre-entry, $15 post-entry and $5 for all students. Contact David LaBrode at 978-373-3408 or at ickylabrode@verizon.net.
