Wrestlers make history in title win

---- — The wrestling team made history this season, winning the school’s first conference title.

Just three years after restoring the program, head coach Brian Urquhart led the Hillies to the 2014 Merrimack Valley Division 2 regular season championship. The Hillies secured the title with a season-ending win over Dracut last Tuesday.

Several Haverhill wrestlers went on to have outstanding showings at the 2014 MIAA North Sectional Meet on Saturday. Luc Chretien claimed the sectional title at 182, while Jordan Faulkner (second at 195), Reece Millington (third at 132), Orlando Rojas (third at138) and Andrew Marcotte (fifth at160) also qualified for the state finals.

Girls/boys hockey teams eye post-season play

In its inaugural season, the Haverhill-Pentucket-North Andover girls hockey team kept its playoff hopes alive with a 1-0 win over Central Catholic on Saturday.

The Hillies closed out the regular season on Wednesday against Waltham.

The boys hockey team also kept the post-season in sight on Saturday by defeating Methuen 4-3. The boys team will end the season at the Newburyport Tournament Thursday and Friday.

Boy swimmers have strong showing in state finals

The boys swimming and diving team had strong representation at the 2014 MIAA Division 1 State Final Meet on Sunday.

Sam Clough led the way with a ninth place finish in the 1-meter dive. Matt Amedeo placed 13th in the 500 free and was 16th in the 200 free. Sean Driscoll finished 20th in the 100 breaststroke.

Girls basketball team falls in double overtime

The girls basketball team finished up the 2013-2014 campaign in exciting fashion.

The Hillies outscored Everett 17-4 in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime last Wednesday night. They ended up falling 66-62 in double overtime.

All Haverhill High School spring sports schedules are now available online.

Sixth annual comedy night on tap

Join us for a night of laughs as the sixth annual Haverhill High School Comedy Night will be held on March 7 at DiBurro’s function hall.

Four top professional comedians will perform and there is a big list of raffle and silent and live auction items. All proceeds will benefit the HHS Athletic Program.
