It was a successful February break for the Hillie sports teams.
The boys hockey team won its last three games of the regular season to qualify for the MIAA State Tournament. The Hillies took the Newburyport Bank Classic title with a 3-1 win over Pentucket to finish 9-9-4. They will make their first playoff appearance since 2007.
The Hillies are the No. 10 seed in the tournament and face No. 7 Marblehead on Tuesday night in Chelmsford.
Cheerleaders qualify for regionals
The cheerleading team placed second at the Milford Invitational last week.
Then at the recent 2014 MVC Championship Competition, the Hillies posted a score of 74 to qualify for the MSSAA Regionals. The Regional Competition will be March 2 at Chelmsford High School.
Hillies solid in track and field events
Riley Gilmore wrapped up yet another successful track season last week.
The senior placed second in the two-mile run at the MIAA Division 1 State Meet. Julia McLaughlin (fourth in the shot put), Yonnie Collins (sixth in the shot put) and Samantha Wise (ninth in the 1,000 meters) also had top-10 finishes for the Hillies. Gilmore went on to finish 15th at the MIAA All-State Meet.
Wrestlers strong at state finals
The wrestling team made history this season, winning the school’s first conference title.
Several Hillie wrestlers then went on to have outstanding showings at the 2014 MIAA North Sectional Meet. Luc Chretien claimed the sectional title at 182 pounds, while Jordan Faulkner (second at 195), Reece Millington (third at 132), Orlando Rojas (third at 138) and Andrew Marcotte (fifth at 160) also qualified for the state finals.
In the state finals, Rojas was the runnerup and qualified for the MIAA All-State Tournament.
